and if we have teachers like this one who dont care I feel for our future and the kids future also from my personal experience dealing with a teacher I wont name but really should as a parent and Im talking to you about my child and for you to turn your back on me and ignore me is a shame but knowing you would do a parent like that I could imagine how you do your stundents starting to wonder if this school was a good choice
I have a child who attends classen I would have to say I expected alot more out of this school now knowing that the teachers wont take out time to explain a assignment just shows me that teachers dont care anymore about teaching which burns me cause these kids are our future
I have two kids who have gone to Classen SAS, one loves it and it was not a good fit for the other. It depends on the kid. If your child has not been exposed to high school kids, it is a big shock to be in a 6-12 grade environment. There is a lot more swearing, references to poor behavior, etc. However, Classen is for motivated kids. I believe that is one of the reasons for the teachers laid back attitude a reviewer mentioned. One of the great things about the school is that almost all of the other kids are as motivated to succeed as your child. I would certainly rather my kid stumble with homework and grades in middle school than in college. Plus, there is no other school in Oklahoma City that offers an IB program, which is recognized internationally. We have found inspirational teachers at Classen, (and one man who was in the science department, is misogynistic, and should have left a long time ago). For all the rest, these are professionals who purchase their own supplies, talk to kids as if their opinion matters, and work before or after school with the kids. I believe teachers have to be on a mission. Between the hours they work and the money they are paid, it is charity work. Classen does a whole lot with a very small budget - all the extra money they could get for awards and excellence is spread among all the OKC public schools. Is that right? Is that fair? I don't know. Seems like they should at least get a larger share. But, that is a fight for another day. For now, here's to the excellent educators who are helping our children succeed!
Sorry to say so far Classen has not lived up to its reputation....my child just completed the 6th grade and she spent most of the year board....my daughter attended elementary school at Dove k-5 and I found it much more challenging....during the enrollment open house we were told not to be surprised if your (A) student brings home declining grades the first year.....it leads you to believe the classes will be challenging....the real story is the staff is so laid back the students have all the time in the world not to complete assignments and that seems to be OK....I was told by one of my childs teachers "I don't take off points for late work because it's my job to grade their work not their behavior". In my opinion that's doesn't help the kids at all....middle school students when given a choice will not pick school work....at this age its not reasonable to expect children to operate this independently....not holding them accountable is what causes the decline in grades.....what's worse is the parents are kept out of the loop because the assignments are online for the most part and the students communicate directly with the teacher....making it easy for your child to say "I don't have any homework".... unless you use the parent portal regularly you will have no idea what your kid is responsible for....my daughter didn't have a decline but many kids fell to the waste side and I don't think they mind....it's definitely not because the work is difficult....more like treating the middle school students like high school students.....I will be returning..... however....I am on the Dove 6-12 school wait list.
I'm currently in 6th grade and I'm Tripping all over those stairs because I'm clumsy. Anyways I honestly wasn't expecting THIS MUCH homework, but overall I think Classen and I have a great relationship so far I hope I HOPE I'll get used to it even though it's 8 weeks in. :b
I am currently in seventh grade. So far I have made two honors societies. I love this school.
