If you have had a good experience with this place, count yourself lucky. Our 1st dachshund, Boomer who has since passed had surgery at the same age as Annie. Both were 8 when their back's gave out. When Boomer lost mobility, we were living in the Tulsa area and took him immediately to our vet. He referred us to Paul Dean, a vet surgeon in Tulsa. He operated on Boomer and he was up walking in only a few days after taking him home. Boomer never had a problem with mobility again. Hindsight being 20/20 I wish I had checked if Dr. Dean was still practicing as I would have taken Annie to him for diagnosis and surgery.
Our dog required surgery to remove a foreign object, and the surgeon was great. Called us before and after the surgery. He was really great about how he explained what he was going to do, chances for success based on veterinarian journals.
The staff here were extremely friendly. Everyone I talked to was very informative.
Care was good, place is beautiful , But you pay for it. They grossly overcharge for everything! They tried to charge me over $600 for medications I got from my primary care vet for only $120. It's an Emergency Vet, be prepared for mind blowing Emergency prices
Update - I posted about our dachshund, Annie's surgery back in April of 2016 at Blue Pearl. It has now been 15 months with no improvement. She was walking prior to her surgery with her hips going side to side and the incontinence was minimal. Since the surgery, she still drags her back legs and her incontinence is worse It was a $3000 surgery and we paid in full when we picked her up. After examining Annie, the surgeon said he felt it was definitely a herniated disc. After the MRI he thought maybe it was not as bad as expected and he might be able to treat it with cortisone shots. Later in the afternoon I was notified that he had opted to perform surgery but after opening her up, found that her spinal column was very narrow which is what was making the herniation so bad. He said he scraped her spinal column after relieving the herniation to help widen it to stave off future issues. Well several months post surgery I called to report she was still dragging her legs and was very unstable when we tried to get her to stand. They told me it could take up to 8 months to heal. We are now at the 15 month mark with no improvement. Incontinence is worse than ever to the point we still have to express her bladder when she goes outside if she has not already accidently gone inside.
We were at the hospital on a Saturday night. We spent about 3 hours there because there were pets in greater need than ours. The doctor and staff were very caring, kind and very clear about the processes that were happening with my pet. We witnessed a woman with her small child leaving and unfortunately, their pet had crossed the rainbow bridge. The women behind the desk were so caring and had a difficult time keeping their emotions at bay. There are lots of great people working there and they care about your pets! We got a diagnosis (bladder stone) for our dog and they were very helpful in communicating the next plan of action to get our pet on the mend. In the mean time, they prescribed appropriate medications and special food to get us through until we can schedule surgery. You will be in good hands! Can't say enough good things about them!
We went in on a Friday afternoon, immediately before a holiday week. My dog was immediately taken back to a treatment room, and a tech came in to check on her. As there were other emergencies being taken care of at that moment, we waited around 30 minutes to see a doctor. She was very thorough with her examination, explanation, and gave us an estimate on surgical repair. We were pleased with the estimate, and they took my dog back for surgery. My pup did wonderfully! Then I found out her surgery wasn't as extensive as estimated, and immediately received a refund. Very, very happy with the care and treatment my dog (and I) received!
